Just when the Co-operative began to establish itself, the Japanese came and all the co-operative movements in Singapore were interrupted for the 3 years and 8 months of Japanese supremacy in Peninsula Malaya until they surrendered in 1945.

The euphoria after the Japanese surrender was shortlived because of the inflation that was to follow. This was quickly followed by undue hardship. The Government immediately assigned incumbent co-operative officers to assist Co-operative societies to reorganise and function once again. As most of its books and records were intact, the Police Co-operative was one of the first to commence operations within a few months.
